Discover Douglas

Douglas is the largest community in Converse County. It has a thriving historic downtown and is home to several historic sites including Fort Fetterman, and abandoned WWII POW Camp and an historic trains display and museum. There's lots to see and do in Douglas but this itinerary takes in some of highlights this small town has to offer.

Explore Glenrock

Important chapters in American history are told in Glenrock and across the surrounding countryside. It’s the early day tale of the West we know today. Glenrock made history as a communication hub between 1860 and 1861. The story is told in the local deer creek museum. This Glenrock itinerary is great for a family weekend.

Day of Trains!

Douglas took its beginnings along the railroad tracks, and trains continue to be an important part of the community’s culture and economy. They’re also reflected in many of the buildings and businesses across the community. Safety is priority when viewing trains. Please remember to keep yourself and your property clear of the tracks.

History Lovers

The West’s History Told Here! This itinerary is focused on History from World War II back to the Pioneer days. Visit a fort from 1867 which was the jumping-off place for several major military expeditions but also a camp from 1943 and the trails of the Pony Express. Western History Enthusiasts look no further Converse County has a yarn to spin.

Dig for Dinosaurs

The Paleon Museum in Glenrock is home to an amazing array of dinosaur bones and geological treasures. This small town gem of a museum should be at the top of your list as it will charm visitors of all ages. They offers guided museum tours with the affordable $5 admission fee. Kids 12 & under are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
