Douglas is the largest community in Converse County. It has a thriving historic downtown and is home to several historic sites including Fort Fetterman, and abandoned WWII POW Camp and an historic trains display and museum. Important chapters in American history are told in Glenrock and across the surrounding countryside. It’s the early day tale of the West we know today. Glenrock made history as a communication hub between 1860 and 1861. The story is told in the local deer creek museum. This Glenrock itinerary is great for a family weekend.
Douglas took its beginnings along the railroad tracks, and trains continue to be an important part of the community’s culture and economy.
