Position Overview:

The Converse County Tourism Promotion Board is seeking a dynamic, self-starting, Director of Tourism and Promotion to support the Board’s mission of promoting tourism, enhancing visitor experiences, and strengthening local economic development. This role is ideal for an organized, motivated, professional who thrives in a flexible work environment and is eager to learn and grow with the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Tourism & Promotion Board.
  • Serve as a professional resource to the Board by framing options, sharing relevant tourism best practices, and helping members evaluate the potential impact of proposed initiatives.
  • Assists the Board to coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, compile reports, and maintain accurate Board records.
  • Manage communications, respond to inquiries, and serve as a primary point of contact for visitors, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Assist with marketing efforts, event coordination, and promotion of tourism initiatives.
  • Assist the Treasurer with budgeting, basic financial tracking, and contract administration as directed by the Board.
  • Conduct research, gather data, and prepare summaries or recommendations to support Board projects.
  • Maintain the Board’s digital presence, including emails, website updates and social media coordination (as directed).
  • Ensure smooth daily operations while upholding professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Attend all meetings of the Board, and other designated committees in an advisory, non-voting capacity. Prepare public notices for all meetings.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing effective communication with local businesses, government leaders, business and cultural institution leaders, event planners, and the local tourism industry.
  • Provide light supervision and direction to a part-time assistant, including assigning tasks, offering guidance, and supporting a professional, positive working relationship.
  • Represent the Board at selected local, state, regional, and national conference and conventions that serve to foster the betterment of the Board’s mission.

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Highly organized, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic, evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and initiative.
  • Proficiency with standard office software including but not limited to QuickBooks, Excel, Word and PowerPoint and digital communication tools.
  • Experience in administration, tourism, marketing, or public service is preferred but not required.

Other Information:

  • A Valid Driver’s License is required. Some travel is necessary.
  • Willing to gain general knowledge of the City of Douglas, Town of Glenrock and Converse County.
